In 2015, Salman Khan and Harshaali Malhotra's Bajrangi Bhaijaan moved everyone to tears with its simplistic yet heart-touching storytelling. Directed by Kabir Khan, it continues to remain one of the top films made in Bollywood. Six years later, the sequel has been confirmed. On Sunday, Salman officially announced Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 at the RRR pre-release event in Mumbai.
During the event, Salman hailed K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, the writer of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and spoke about how he gave him one of the best films of his career. The confirmation of the sequel came across as a major surprise. Karan Johar, who hosted the RRR pre-release mega event, asked Salman, "So can we say, this is the official announcement of the film?" Replying to it, the superstar said, "Yes, Karan."

K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, the father of renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, wrote Bajrangi Bhaijaan and will also work on the script of its sequel. The name of the director is yet to be announced after Kabir distanced himself from the sequel.
In an interview with an entertainment portal, Kabir made it clear that he will not be directing the sequel of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He had told that the story for him is over. "In our industry, the moment a film is a hit people start making a sequel. Not only in Tiger, after New York also people started saying when will the sequel be made. I told them that ‘if you have seen the film, you will see that all the characters die, about whom will I make the film?’. With Tiger, for me, it was one story. Yes, it had the potential of a franchise when we were writing but I was very clear that I am not going to do it and I have never been excited about franchises. You can imagine the pressure there is to make Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2. But for me, the story is over," Kabir stated.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film revolved around Munni, a Pakistani speech-impaired girl, who separates from her mother and seeks help from Salman's Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi to reunite with her family.
