Daya Nayak thanks Rohit Shetty for ‘Sooryavanshi’, says Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn & Ranveer Singh were fabulous!

Among the credits of Sooryavanshi, Rohit Shetty’s cop universe drama that opened on Diwali Friday and despite the 50% occupancy at theatres has given Bollywood the much needed shot in the arm and Housefull shows, is thanks expressed among the Mumbai Police top brass to a certain Daya Nayak. Who is Daya Nayak?

He’s the stuff that legends are made of. And on whose exploits some blockbuster Bollywood police dramas were made. A boy from a small town in Mangalore who came to Mumbai to work in a canteen and rose to become one of the police’s most daring and dreaded encounter specialists. He’s been the nemesis of the underworld and of rogue terrorist outfits that tried to make Mumbai their base.

Daya Nayak was the Dirty Harry of the Mumbai Police. Until the human rights organisations took objection to encounters and wrapped him up in investigations, courtroom dramas, and an unfortunate sentence. But like the hero of several films, Daya Nayak bounced back, got reinstated in the police force, and is back to doing what he does best – policing the city. That this cop’s knowledge of the underworld and terrorism is phenomenal is recognised from the fact that Rohit Shetty, who is no stranger to how the police force works, sought out Daya Nayak for technical advise when making his latest cop universe drama Sooryavanshi. The film’s release and immediate acceptance has had a powerful impact on Bollywood. And trade pundits are already talking about a resurgence of the box office after months of being shut for Covid.

Rohit Shetty and his co-producers, Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Reliance Entertainment, had a special private screening of Sooryavanshi for the Mumbai Police to express their gratitude for all the support. Daya Nayak is also among the cops who saw Sooryavanshi. And unmindful of his own role in the backend support, the celebrated cop tweeted his response to the film.

Says Daya Nayak on Twitter: “Watched Sooryavanshi and (was) completely blown away! Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh were just fabulous! Perfect movie to watch after the pandemic break. Rohit Shetty has showcased the difficulties and risks in the lives of the police force so well! Big thank you! Congrats on a great movie!”
