‘Till now, my films have worked because of the audience, and not because the so-called insiders validated it,’ says Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee Pannu in an interview has said that the ‘insiders’ in the film industry never gave her any validation and she does not expect it from them. Recently the actress launched her production house, Outsiders Films and wrapped the first production venture Blurr opposite Gulshan Devaiah recently. The insider-outsider ad nepotism debate gained ground in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death last year.

Taapsee in an interview to an online portal said that she doesn’t think being an outsider in the film industry makes anyone inferior to insiders in any way. She said, “I've never seen being an outsider as any way lesser than being an insider. Being an insider or an outsider doesn't guarantee success. My audience will make me successful; not being an insider or an outsider. So, till now, my films, whichever have worked, is because of the audience, and not because the so-called insiders validated it. No, they didn't. They still don't. It's not like I expect it also, because I have reached here courtesy my audience. They went and bought my movie tickets and made it a hit."

The actress also said that she doesn’t see the need to become an insider and that is why she has named her production house Outsiders Films as she wants to make the term a positive one. Speaking about how long she sees herself working as the female lead, Taapsee said, “I can't put a calendar date on how long I can be here for. I'm going to be around for as long as I feel it is working. I want to have a graceful exit, whenever that happens.”
