Saif Ali Khan withdraws his Adipurush statement, says 'the epic will be presented without any distortions'

Saif Ali Khan invited trolls and criticism after he claimed Om Raut's upcoming film Adipurush will humanise Raavan and justify his abduction of Sita. BJP MLA Ram Kadam and social media users slammed the actor for his statement made during an interview with a leading daily. So much so, netizens asked Om to replace Saif as Raavan. Now, after receiving backlash, the 50-year-old actor has issued a statement. He apologised for hurting sentiments unintentionally. He added that the team of Adipurush is working to present the epic without distortion.

"I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused a controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions," Saif mentioned in his statement.

In the interview, Saif said, "It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose."

Adipurush, starring Prabhas as Ram, is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om, Prasad Sutar and Rajesh Nair. It will release in theatres on August 11, 2022. Adipurush will be shot in Hindi and Telugu and dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
