Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and others appeal to the Government of India to 'unlock cinema, save jobs'

On March 13, the Government of India instructed public places like theatres, malls, parks, gyms, etc to discontinue their operations for the time being due to the rapid spread of Coronavirus. Now, six months later, as public recreational places are reopening, a decision of theatres is yet to be taken. Due to this, a number of Bollywood films have been delayed and jobs of many are at risk. While the fate of cinema halls lies in the hands of the Government, producers and directors appealed to them unlock theatres. 

Producers Guild of India, on their official Twitter handle, shared a statement requesting the Government to reopen theatres. Listing down the precautionary measures that will be taken, the note mentioned how the current pandemic condition has caused financial problems for employees. They also stated that when other services like railways, restaurants, gyms have restarted, theatres are safer as they equipped with better facilities for the audience.

Soon after the note was issued, celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Om Raut and others requested the Government to unlock cinema to save jobs. 

Amid the pandemic, theatres in China, the US, the UK, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and other countries have reopened.
