Did you know Shah Rukh Khan's and Kajol's iconic 'palat' scene from 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' was inspired by a Hollywood film?

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, broke major records instantly. Be it attaining the longest-running film at Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai or its iconic scenes, the Aditya Chopra directorial holds an important place in the history of Bollywood. While avid cinema watchers and Shah Rukh-Kajol fans are well-versed with the dialogues, the palat sequence is an all-time favourite. But did you know that it is inspired by a Hollywood film? Well, yes.

Aditya, in his Aditya Chopra Relives…Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge penned by Nasreen Munni Kabir, told that a scene from the film In the Line of Fire featuring Clint Eastwood and Rene Russo got stuck in his head and while writing Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, he used the idea. "It got stuck in my head. Then I forgot all about it. When I was writing this scene, it came back to me. I liked the idea and used it here," the director stated.

Talking about the original scene, it is picturised on Clint who is seen saying, "If she looks back, that means she's interested. Come on now give me a little look. a little glance back. give me that smug look and be on your way". As he says the same, Rene goes away, just to look back at him. Unlike Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Clint, in In the Line of Fire, is a spy for protecting his country.

This scene from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge went on to inspire numerous Bollywood films. The film released in 1995 and also featured Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Mandira Bedi, Parmeet Sethi, Pooja Ruparel, Satish Shah among several others.
