‘Imtiaz Ali director nahi hain, jadugar hain,’ says Kartik Aaryan in a thank you note to his ‘Love Aaj Kal’ director

Kartik Aaryan is one actor who’s completely taken over the social media world this lockdown-period. While the video-sharing platform has his hit series Koki Poochega trending since its inception, his last release Love Aaj Kal has been trending on the OTT platform ever since its digital release. Kartik Aaryan plays the role of a true-blue romantic hero for the first time and that too with Imtiaz Ali’s twist to it. The actor had a challenging part to play not one but two characters in the film and amazed everyone. The actor’s performance in Love Aaj Kal was loved by the audiences and critics alike and it was called one of his best performances in his career. The actor was in love with his romantic hero avatars- Raghu and Veer and he gave it his all. Today, the heartthrob took to his Instagram account as he pens a gratitude-filled post for Imtiaz Ali and how he can’t thank the filmmaker enough for the great opportunity.

The actor in his note says that how he always dreamt of being in front of the arch lights and his talent was raw, “When you first dream of being in films, you act in front of the mirror and nail it every time, and the world of movies seems magical. Then you get a movie. You see the camera and are unnerved. It’s bigger than the suitcase you brought to Mumbai. The bright lights seem to be scolding you for not landing on a one inch tape mark and wasting everyones time. The first few years become about trying not to look nervous. Then you get an Imtiaz Ali movie. The moment he narrates the story, you are pulled into a dream. I don’t even remember seeing the camera on his set, he‘d always be standing wherever I looked after cut.”

I don’t even remember seeing the camera on his set, he‘d always be standing wherever I looked after cut. He was never at the monitor, he was by my side. The lights on Imtiaz Ali’s set help you find those tape marks. I have never experienced the kind of love and appreciation I have got for my performance in Love Aaj Kal, and that too from some of my favourite filmmakers and people I most respect in the industry. How ironic that the making of this film felt most effortless! It would scare me to think of doing two characters in one movie. And here, I didn’t even realise how smoothly I was being transitioned between #Veer and #Raghu . For an actor, there is no better environment than being In front of that mirror. Imtiaz Ali takes you there. This is the reason why so many great actors’ greatest performances have been in Imtiaz Ali films. Imtiaz Ali director nahi hain, jadugar hain! Thank you sir for giving me the best performance of my career yet. @imtiazaliofficial #LoveAajKal

In his long speech, he thanks the filmmaker further for always being by his side instead of being on the monitor. His portrayal of Raghu and Veer put him on a pedestal in the eyes of Bollywood biggies, “I have never experienced the kind of love and appreciation I have got for my performance in Love Aaj Kal, and that too from some of my favourite filmmakers and people I most respect in the industry. How ironic that the making of this film felt most effortless! It would scare me to think of doing two characters in one movie. Now this heartfelt post surely makes one’s day, as the actor really gives due credit to the filmmaker for his career’s best performance and what a wonderful experience he had whilst working with him. Truly, Aaryan is a gem of an artiste and no wonder the biggest filmmakers are wanting to work with him.
