Janta Curfew: Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone step out in their balconies to clap and cheer for authorities protecting the city, watch

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in a special message for the citizens on March 19, called for Janta Curfew today (March 22) to fight against the deadly and rapidly spreading Coronavirus. Coronavirus aka COVID-19 that came into knowledge after it impacted China and its neighbouring countries, has been titled as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. With India also affected, the Government requested people to stay at home safe as the next 10-15 days are extremely crucial. Soon after Mr. Modi announced Janta Curfew, Bollywood celebrities extended their support to him and the initiative.

Mr. Modi, under the initiative of Janta Curfew, asked the citizens to clap, blow a conch shell or use utensils to make noise as an ode to those who have been working tirelessly for the safety of the city. As the clock struck 5 pm, as instructed, Bollywood along with others, came out in their balconies to thank the authorities. Akshay Kumar shared a video wherein he is seen clapping with others. "5 mins at 5 pm : With my neighbours taking a moment to appreciate those who do not have this luxury of staying at home and working tirelessly to keep us safe. Thank you to all the essential service providers for your selfless work," Akshay wrote.

Karan Johar along with his twins- Yash-Roohi and his mother Hiroo Johar also stepped out in his balcony at 5 pm today. "That’s our family celebrating the unity of spirit and resilience...today we also show tremendous gratitude to all members of the medical fraternity who have tirelessly and relentlessly worked towards healing the infected and protecting thousands of people from this dreaded virus," Karan wrote on his Instagram.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone also joined the Bollywood brigade. A video of Ranveer cheering for the authorities with the help of a drum went viral while Deepika is seen clapping in a picture.

Varun Dhawan, on his Instagram, wrote, "we will have to do this for longer. Everyone who is my age please keep your parents safe. I applaud the heroes fighting this virus". Kangana Ranaut with her family in Manali cheered for the spirit of the nation. 

 

Kriti Sanon along with her parents- Geeta Sanon- Rahul Sanon and sister Nupur Sanon clapped and cheered too.
