His last release Kal Aaj Kal did not do a roaring business at the box office but still the actor’s performance was not panned. In fact, he received appreciation for his portrayal of Raghu and his Veer seemed genuine and caring enough. The film’s debacle did not rest on his shoulders and it was Imtiaz Ali’s directorial failure that irked the audience as well as the critics. His stardom will not get affected by a mere flop as his acting prowess was not criticized. It was the film’s confusing and badly written story that was held responsible for the film being a flop.
Lucrative films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dostana 2 in his kitty
Kartik has two big releases lined up. He will be stepping into the shoes of Akshay Kumar in the sequel to his hit film Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Kartik has already started shooting for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 that stars Kiara Advani in the lead. The film is directed by Anees Bazmee and is one of the most anticipated films of Bollywood. He will also be sharing screen space with Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya for Collin D’Cunha’s Dostana 2. The film marks his foray into Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions. The film is already on floors and is eagerly awaited. Both the films have potential to put him back in the game, that too probably at the numero uno position.
Filmmaker’s Favourite
Kartik is a favourite with directors and producers. Luv Ranjan has already teamed up with Kartik in several films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Akaash Vani. Dinesh Vijan favoured him in Luka Chuppi and Love Aaj Kal and he met Kartik a few weeks back too at his Maddock Films office; maybe a new film is on the cards. Kartik represents the young middle class youth and for that the filmmakers and directors are queuing up to him, not to discount the fact that he is a pretty good actor, has a good dialogue delivery, appeals to the audience, is a good dancer and fits to the T with the new set of actresses.

Previous back-to-back hits overpower one failure
Kartik’s last year releases Luka Chuppi and Pati, Patni Aur Woh were big hits and so one flop in Love Aaj Kal will not rob him of his stardom. Moreover, as stated earlier the film was criticized not because of Kartik’s performance but for the fact that Imitiaz did a shoddy work of repeating himself yet again.
