Shabana Azmi, on Friday, met with a fatal car accident near Khalapur Toll Plaza while returning to Mumbai from Khandala. The actress who was travelling in her Tata Safari car sustained grave injuries after her vehicle was rammed by a truck in a head-on collision. However, her husband noted lyricist Javed Akhtar who was also en route Mumbai with her, escaped the accident as he was travelling in another car with a guest. Now, as the veteran actress is undergoing treatment at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in the suburbs, the driver of the truck with which Shabana's car met an accident, has reportedly filed an accident report in Khalapur.
As per reports of a media agency, the truck driver filed an FIR against the driver Amlesh Kamat for rash driving on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, leading to the accident. The FIR, if the report of the agency is to be believed, reads that the accident took place 'due to rash driving by the driver, the car hit the moving truck on Pune-Mumbai Expressway which resulted in the accident'. As per reports, the driver has also sustained minor injuries.

Speaking of the accident, Shabana, while returning to Mumbai on the evening of Saturday, met with an accident when her driver, who was driving in the third lane, took a left turn and rammed into the truck. Shabana, who was seated on the left side, was hit by a hard object, leading to grave injuries. The pictures that did the rounds showcased a damaged left side of the car. The actress was immediately taken to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai and then shifted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital at night.
