Not necessarily act in films I finance: Deepika Padukone on venturing into production with 'Chhapaak'

Deepika Padukone, after proving her mettle as a phenomenal actress, is now venturing into production. The actress's upcoming film titled Chhapaak, doesn't just feature her name in the lead cast but also credits her for being the co-producer. While it is a known fact that Deepika, since college days, had a passion for acting, but did you know producer Dinesh Vijan discovered qualities of producer hidden within her? Well yes. Deepika, during an interview with a leading daily for Chhapaak, told that Dinesh, during the shoot of Cocktail, felt she could make for a good producer. However, she ignored it back then, just to become one eight years later. Adding further, the 34-year-old actress clarified that it isn't necessary that the film she produces, shall star her in the lead.

"When I was shooting for Cocktail, Dinesh Vijan told me I have it in me to be a producer. Eight years later, it has become a reality. I won't necessarily produce every film that I act in. Only if I can add value to it by lending my name, will I be on board," Deepika told.

Deepika, apart from Chhapaak, will co-produce as well as act in Kabir Khan's '83 that stars her husband Ranveer Singh as the former captain of the Indian cricket team-Kapil Dev. The sports biopic will feature the actress as Kapil's wife Romi Dev. It will release on April 10, 2020. Deepika will also co-produce Madhu Mantena's Mahabharat and will step into the shoes of Draupadi in the same.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika’s KA Production, Meghna and Govind Singh Sandhu’s Mriga Films, written by Atika Chohan and Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is a tale of an acid attack survivor named Malti who battles against the social evildoers. The film also stars Vikrant Massey and is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020.
