‘I want Maharashtra to take part in his journey as much as the rest of India,' says Ajay Devgn on releasing Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior in Marathi as well

With the trailer of Ajay Devgn's and Saif Ali Khan's magnum opus period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, the film managed to pave its way as the most anticipated ones of 2020. The period war drama has not just among fans but amidst critics, created a positive stir. The film that marks the collaboration of Ajay and Saif after Omkara in 2006 also plays witness to the reunion of the former with his wife Kajol onscreen after a couple of years. And this collaboration of the real-life couple has sent fans of the actors into a zone of excitement. As Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is about to release in theatres in close to month's time, the makers announced that along with Hindi, the film will simultaneously release in Marathi. The war drama that projects the valour and bravery of the Maratha warrior, in order to reach out to the interiors of the state, will run at theatres with its Marathi edition too. Talking about the same, Ajay, who is playing the titular role, told a leading daily that the purpose behind doing so is to ensure Maharashtra also takes part in the journey that celebrates the courage of their brave warrior. 

“It’s my privilege to be able to share the story of this brave warrior in his mother tongue, as well as in Hindi. I want Maharashtra to take part in his journey as much as the rest of India,” Ajay told during the interview.

Om Raut, who has directed the Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, told the daily that giving the film a Marathi release was Ajay's idea, who felt reaching out to the interiors with a strong subject like this is needed. "I had pitched it as a Hindi film because the idea was to go global. But Mr. Devgn felt the need to come out with a Marathi version as well to ensure that it reaches the interiors of the state,” Om said.

Om further added that releasing Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior in Marathi will be like paying a nice tribute to the warrior and while filming it, they have ensured to keep the beauty of the language intact.  “It will be a nice tribute to showcase a Marathi film about a warrior in 3D. Capturing the dialect and cultural nuances was important and we have ensured that the beauty of the language is not lost," Om concluded.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is based on the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 which was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Udaybhan. Saif plays Rajput officer, Udaybhan Rathod, who served under Mughal army chief Jai Singh while Kajol will be seen as Ajay's onscreen wife. Apart from them, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior stars renowned Marathi actors including Sharad Kelkar, Devdatta Nage and Shashank Shende. The film is directed by Om Raut and produced by Ajay’s ADF and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.  will release on January 10, 2020. The film will be releasing in 3D. The Marathi trailer will be out on December 10, 2019.
