Ahead of its India release, Vinod Kapri’s PYRE Selected for the Main Competition of the BRICS+ International Film Festival in St. Petersburg

Vinod Kapri’s PYRE (), which releases theatrically in India on October 30, 2026, in Hindi and Malayalam, has been selected for the Main Competition at the BRICS+ International Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. Scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 3, 2026, the selection comes as another significant milestone for the film, which has earned widespread recognition on the international festival circuit.

Shot entirely in the mountains of Uttarakhand, PYRE has made a significant mark internationally, collecting 18 international awards, including 15 Best Film honours at festivals and events across Washington, D.C., Chicago, Canada, Spain, Boston, Stuttgart, London and Birmingham. The film has also received Best Director awards in Serbia and Boston, besides recognition for its music, cinematography and sound.

Written and directed by Vinod Kapri, PYRE is a poignant story of love, companionship and resilience, set against the changing social fabric of rural India starring two actors Heera Devi and Padam Singh who are making their debut at 70 and 80 respectively.

The film’s selection for the BRICS+ International Film Festival further strengthens its international presence, bringing a deeply rooted Indian story to a global audience.

Speaking about the film’s India release and its selection for the international competition, filmmaker Vinod Kapri said, “It is a matter of immense happiness that while PYRE is releasing theatrically in India it will also be screened at the BRICS+ International Film Festival in St. Petersburg. What matters most to me is that Indian audiences now get to experience this story on the big screen. I hope the film moves people and sparks a conversation about migration, ageing and the lives of those who remain in our villages.”

With its theatrical release in India coinciding with its appearance at a major international film festival, PYRE continues to draw attention to the changing realities of the Himalayan region, telling a deeply personal story that speaks to a much wider human experience.
