That perception has now changed: Ajay Devgn on 'Tanhaji' getting affected by box office jinx being the first release of 2020!

Ajay Devgn launched the trailer of his ambitious upcoming period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior at 1.47 pm on Tuesday. The trailer suggests the film may not be for the fainthearted with lots of sword fight scenes, fire, and clashes between armies, with a bit of dance thrown in. Set in the 17th century, the Om Raut directorial is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, an unsung warrior of Indian history and the military leader in the army of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire.

The period drama will mark Ajay's on-screen reunion with wife Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. The film will release on January 10, 2020. However, there has been a perception that whatever film releases in the start of January tanks at the box office. When Ajay was asked if ahead of Tanhaji, he is affected by this box office jinx, the actor quipped, "That perception has changed now. Yes, the first week is slow but our film is releasing in the second week." Hearing this, Ajay's close friend and filmmaker Rohit Shetty jumped in to say, "Simmba released on 28 December 2018 and Uri: The Surgical Strike released on 11 Janaury 2019. Both worked well so we don't need to worry."
