Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bharadwaj to reunite for 'Kaminey' sequel, tentatively titled 'Maha Kaminey'?

It won't be wrong to say Vishal Bharadwaj is amongst the best filmmakers Bollywood has. With interesting narratives, star cast and soulful music, Vishal's films are hard to be missed. However, he has been credited to several masterpieces and award-winning films, Shahid Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra Jonas starrer Kaminey holds a special place in the hearts of avid cinema watchers. The thriller not just placed Vishal yet again amongst the bankable filmmakers, but became Shahid's most admired and appreciated film where he showcased a different side of his acting chops and deviated from his chocolate boy image. While its been ten years since the release, speculations regarding its sequel have been doing the rounds. And as per reports of a leading daily, the sequel, it seems, is being planned for real. Sources close to the development informed that Vishal has an idea to take the franchise forward and has tentatively titled it as Maha Kaminey. So much so, the filmmaker has applied for the title's registration. If all goes well, Vishal and Shahid will team up for the sequel once the latter wraps shooting for Jersey's Hindi remake.

“Vishal has a script idea for a film which could take the franchise ahead and it is called Maha Kaminey. He recently applied for the title with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. Shahid played the roles of Guddu and Charlie in the original film, and he will be continuing to reprise that role in case Vishal and he decide to work together again after Shahid wraps Jersey,” the source told.

The source further added that the second installment of Kaminey might pick up from where the original ended that is Priyanka's character, Sweety, giving birth to Guddu aka Shahid's twins. “The film did have an open ending with the birth of the twins and that option is now being explored. Kaminey also had some brilliant songs and the idea of a franchise has excited everyone who was in the first part,” the source added.

Speaking of Kaminey, the film starred Shahid in dual roles, one being Guddu and the other being Charlie. The film, with the backdrop of the underworld, revolved around the rivalry between two twins. Kaminey released on August 14, 2009, and went on to bag several accolades and awards.
