Nawazuddin Siddiqui confirms a sequel of 'Thackeray', says film in its scripting stage

It won't be wrong to say, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with his choice of films, has created a niche for himself in the vast cinema industry, which is being loved by his audience. From petty role in his initial days to portraying the character of a journalist in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Nawazuddin has done it all with perfection. However, among all his roles, the one character that struck the chord with all age groups was of ShivSena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray in his biopic. Directed by Sanjay Raut, a politician from ShivSena and a Member of Parliament, Thackeray went to not just bagged Nawazuddin appreciation but carved an emotional place in the hearts of citizens of Maharashtra. Post the success of this film, reports did the rounds that a sequel will be made. However, a while ago Nawazuddin denied them. Now, in the latest development, it seems Thackeray part 2 is on its way. Nawazuddin, during an interview with a leading daily, told that the sequel is on the cards and is currently in the scripting process. The actor further said since he is busy with his professional commitments and the makers with elections, it will take time for the film to go floors.

"The initial idea was to make the film in two parts, so, the question of shelving it doesn't arise at all. Also, the first film received a good response. The script is currently being worked on. I had spoken to Sanjay Raut a few months ago and he assured me that the second part will be made. They were busy with the elections, and I am tied up with my movies. Playing the character would require me to get into the mould again. So, it will take some time before we set the ball rolling," Nawazuddin told.

Thackeray was written and directed by Abhijit Panse. The film released simultaneously in Marathi and Hindi. It was produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Dr. Shrikant Bhasi, Varsha Sanjay Raut, Purvashi Sanjay Raut and Vidhita Sanjay Raut. Thackeray, starring Nawazuddin in the titular role, featured Amrita Rao as Meenatai Thackeray. The film released on January 25, 2019, which marked Balasaheb's 93rd birth anniversary.
