Baiju Bawra vs Mahabharat: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film to clash with Deepika Padukone’s on Diwali 2021

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has announced another of his ambitious project just days after announcing Gangubai Kathiawadi that will feature Alia Bhatt in the lead. The ace filmmaker announced his “most ambitious film project,” Baiju Bawra on Sunday. The film is a “revenge story of a maverick maestro” will hit screens on Diwali 2021. 

Details about the cast are still not out but what has caught everyone’s attention is the fact that Bhansali’s film will clash with Deepika Padukone’s Mahabharat in which she is playing the lead as Draupadi and is also co-producing with Madhu Mantena. Deepika’s film is a megabudget and will have an ensemble cast. It remains to be seen whether Bhansali will lock horns with his three-time female lead or one of the parties change their release date to avert a box office clash.

Bhansali has directed Deepika in films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018), all three of them remarkable box-office successes as well as fetched top honours for the actress at the various award shows. Let’s wait and watch how the clash shapes up and whether any of them relents and reschedule their release dates. 

Baiju Bawra is the remake of 1952’s classic starring Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari in the lead. The film was directed by Vijay Bhatt. The film, a musical was the second biggest grosser of the year and the eighth biggest hits of the 50s.
