The nation, a while ago, was taken aback with shocking reports of several Bollywood actresses and personalities coming out with cases of sexual harassment against them. Moreover, it came as an unpleasant surprise when veteran actors including Nana Patekar and Alok Nath found themselves into a legal soup after Tanushree Dutta and writer Vinta Nanda accused them under the MeToo India movement around a year ago. Soon after the movement gained momentum in the film industry, with several coming out in support of the right, celebrities, during public interactions with media, were quizzed on their opinion on the matter. While eminent Bollywood personalities opened up on the MeToo India movement, Deepika Padukone is of the opinion that not just showbiz stars but other public figures like cricketers should also be given a chance to put forth their say. The actress, during an interview on a chat show, told that being an actress, she gets to put forth her say and cine stars are brought on all platforms with an expectation to have an opinion on everything. However, she further said, eminent faces from other fields are not asked for their say on important matters.
"I am someone who likes to work and express my perspectives where I can see change. Actors are brought on platforms and are expected to give our opinions on everything. Why are businessmen not asked these questions, why does someone not ask Ratan Tata what he thinks about Aarey, why are cricketers not asked about MeToo. So, sure, I don't think I'm in any kind of place to say if I would expose myself to a forum. You can ask me whatever question you want, but why subject it only to a film star? As responsible, should we not have an opinion? All our opinions should matter then, right?" Deepika told during the interview.
Workwise, Deepika will be seen on celluloid as Malti in Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak, which is based on the acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. It is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020. After that, she will share the screen space with her husband Ranveer Singh in Kabir Khan's '83. The film marks their first collaboration post-marriage. The film will release on April 10, 2020.
