Confirmed: Akshay Kumar to reunite with Jagan Shakti for 'Ikka', the remake of of Vijay’s Kaththi

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is currently gearing up for his Independence Day release Mission Mangal, co-starring Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi. The film marks the directorial debut of Jagan Shakti, who had previously worked as an assistant director on films like Cheeni Kum, Paa and English Vinglish, among others. Now as per a leading daily, Akshay and Jagan are all set to reunite for Ikka, the official Hindi remake of AR Murugadoss’s Tamil film, the Vijay-starrer Kaththi

Confirming the news, Jagan told the daily that Ikka will go on the floors soon, stating that the team is currently reworking the script. “It will resonate with the underprivileged section of the society. With my second directorial, I want to explore action which is presented in a sleek way," he added. The original film Kaththi, which was released in 2014, had Tamil superstar Vijay essaying the role of a man who fights for the rights of farmers against the corrupt MNCs.

For those caught unaware, Jagan was to make his Bollywood debut with Ikka itself and he had already discussed the premise of the action-thriller with Akshay. However, the project was put on backburner when Jagan came across the story of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists, which led him to make Mission Mangal. Now with Ikka confirmed, we cannot be more excited.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay has been busy shooting Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi and Raghava Lawrence’s Laxmmi Bomb. Apart from them, he also has Good News with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Housefull 4, and recently announced Bachchan Pandey, in the pipeline.
