Taapsee Pannu to portray cricketer Mithali Raj in a biopic? Here's what we know so far

Taapsee has already done a sports biopic since she played the character of a hockey player in Soorma, co-starring Diljit Dosanjh as former Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh. Now if a report in a leading daily is to be believed, Taapsee has been approached to star in another sports film, based on the life of Mithali Raj, the captain of Indian women’s cricket team in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The report further states that Taapsee has verbally agreed to do the film, which has generated a a lot of interest since it was announced by Viacom 18 in September 2017, although the actress is yet to sign the dotted line.

“The formalities will be done once the studio has a director on board. They have also locked the story but the script is still being developed," the daily quoted a source. Since Taapsee has got a lot on her plate for now, she will reportedly start filming the project next year, “The film is expected to roll next year and Taapsee will undergo rigorous training in cricket as part of her prep," added the source.

For the unversed, during the Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup in June 2018, Mithali emerged as the leading run-getter for India in T20Is (both men and women). She has not completed 20 years in international cricket, she is also the highest scorer in international women’s cricket and the only female cricketer to go past the 6,000-run mark in WODIs. So, it would certainly be interesting to see Taapsee step into Mithali's shoes.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Taapsee will next be seen in Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh, where in she's playing the oldest sharpshooter, popularly known as the Shooter Dadi.
