Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani will head to Kargil for the second schedule of 'Shershaah'

Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who play lead roles in debutant director Vishnu Varadhan’s Shershaah, are all set to kickstart the second schedule of the film. The film is based on the ‘true story’ of Kargil war hero Vikram Batra, as revealed by the filmmaker. The duo had kicked off the shooting Chandigarh last month and now the team is headed to Kargil, a town in the Kargil district of Ladakh region.

The team is arriving in the Ladakh district on July 26 to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the day and celebrations will be spread over three days from July 25-27. A source revealed, “Sidharth and Kiara will kick off the shoot after the celebrations and will also spend some time with the soldiers. While Sidharth will stay on for at least a month to film war sequences, Kiara’s portions will be wrapped up earlier.”

The biopic is based on the late captain Vikram Batra, the Indian Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his actions during the 1999 Kargil war. Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of Operation Vijay, under which, India successfully took command of high outposts on July 26, 1999, which had been lost to Pakistani intruders during the Kargil war.
