Famous Tamil comedy actor Vadivelu found himself in the midst of a tweet storm from Wednesday evening after the hashtag #Pray_for_Neasamani started trending on Twitter. Apparently, a Facebook user posted on a page called ‘Civil Engineering Learners’, a picture of a hammer and asked what’s the tool called in other countries. The comments that followed ensured a hilarious turn of events as two Tamil cinema fans came up with witty and sarcastic replies that snowballed into a huge social media sensation and gave rise to several memes.
One of the Facebook users, Vignesh Prabhakar replied that the tool was called ‘Suthiyal’ in Tamil and went on to refer to Vadivelu’s famous character in the 2001 Tamil film Friends, where a hammer falls on the actor’s head making him unconscious. Vadivelu plays a building contractor supervisor. In the film Vadivelu’s character ‘Neasamani’ often becomes a victim to his employees’ antics and misdeeds. Since Prabhakar referred to Neasamani’s character without offering any context many people thought it to be true and started praying for Neasamani and it spawned a lot of memes on Twitter and hashtag #Nesamani has been trending today as well. This is how it all started:
