Sadak 2: Alia Bhatt’s character to expose a fake godman who runs an ashram?

Alia Bhatt is all set to begin filming Sadak 2 in a fortnight with Sanjay Dutt and if a report in a leading daily is anything to by, Mahesh Bhatt’s film is based on the protagonist exposing a fake godman. Alia, cast in the lead role of the film, is accompanied by Dutt’s character as she sets out on a quest to out the ‘fake guru’.

“Alia’s character is out to expose a fake guru who runs an ashram. She is accompanied by Sanjay’s (Dutt) character in this journey. Sanjay has already started prep with Bhatt saab. They start shooting in a fortnight,” a source was quoted as saying by the daily.

Sadak 2 is Mahesh Bhatt’s directorial comeback and also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt. Asked about the plot of the film, Bhatt told the daily, “Sadak 2 is about love, loss and redemption. To simplify a heartfelt narrative like this is to falsify it. You would be trivialising the essence of the film by suggesting that Sadak 2 is just this.”

Gulshan Grover also stars in Sadak 2 but Bhatt clarified that he has not been cast as the antagonist, godman in the film. Instead, Bhatt said that a ‘great actor’ has been approached for the antagonist’s role but he refused to divulge details.

“He is not. We have a ‘great’ actor playing that part. But Gulshan plays a very important part as well. Let the actor sign on the dotted line and let the ink dry on the contract only then will we announce the name. I can’t reveal the identity (of the actor) till that is behind us,” Bhatt added.

Mahesh Bhatt last directed Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala in Kartoos 20 years ago. Sadak 2 is a sequel to Bhatt’s 1991 film, starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles.

Sadak 2 is expected to release in March 2020.
