Mental Hai Kya: Indian Psychiatric Society writes to makers of Kangana Ranaut’s film to ‘remove discriminating’ title

Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Mental Hai Kya has mired itself into a controversy as the Indian Psychiatric Society has written to the makers, objecting to the title of the film, a leading news channel reports. According to the society, the title of the film is “discriminating and stigmatising” towards those suffering from mental health disorders.

The report also states that the society has “demanded” the makers to “remove” the title with immediate effect. The Indian Psychiatric Society, in fact, has also addressed a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi regarding the matter.

In their letters, the society has also requested the makers to remove references from Mental Hai Kya that might hurt the sentiments of mental health patients. Neither the CBFC nor the makers of Mental Hai Kya have so far responded to the report.
