The makers of Student Of The Year 2 dropped the first song of the film, titled The Jawaani Song on Thursday and it is already trending vehemently on social media. SOTY 2 stars Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in the lead roles while Aditya Seal also performed to the track.
The Jawaani Song is a reworked version of the 1972 hit number from the film Jawani Diwani, starring Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan. The original had vocals by the legendary Kishore Kumar and was composed by RD Burman. It was a classic for sure and team SOTY 2 has made a fine attempt at retaining the essence of the original in The Jawaani Song.

BACKDROP
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani was a romantic song picturised on Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan as the veteran actress attempted to woo her. It was a hit chartbuster of the seventies and continues to remain a memorable track.
The Jawaani Song, on the other hand, features Tiger, Ananya, Tara and Aditya as college students performing on stage with a team of other dancers in front of a cheerful audience. It appears to be a performance staged during a dance competition and we will surely understand that after watching the film at theatres.
OUTFITS
Jaya Bachchan looked nothing short of beautiful in a yellow saree and gold jewellery – danglers and a statement neckpiece – in the 1972 version. Randhir Kapoor was the seventies stud – handsome in a red tee and pants paired with a black jacket.
As for The Jawaani Song, Tiger and Aditya are suave in white shirts and checked pants paired with ties while Tara and Ananya looked chic in crop tops and skirts – ties were essential for them as well. In another sequence in the song, the stars opted for gold and shimmer outfits. Modern retro feels!
LYRICS
Anand Bakshi is responsible for the lyrics of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani as Gili Gili Akkha has turned out to be an iconic phrase ever since 1972.
Gili Gili Akkha has been used in the SOTY 2 version as well as while the hook step has been choreographed around the particular phrase – Tara, Ananya, Aditya and Tiger performed upbeat steps to the Young and Crazy lyrics. While most of the original wordings of the song have been retained, Anvita Dutt has added additional lyrics to the The Jawaani Song, recreated by Vishal & Shekhar.
MUSIC
Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani was composed by the legendary RD Burman and had vocals by Kishore Kumar. And we’re sure we don’t need to add that it has been an iconic song ever since.
The best part about The Jawaani Song is that the makers haven’t tampered with the original and retained the essence of it in the SOTY 2 version. We loved it. What about you?
