In our entire career, we have always been pitted against each other but I have immense respect for Sridevi, says Madhuri Dixit

For Madhuri Dixit, Kalank is special for reasons more than one, primarily because she replaced Sridevi for the role of Bahaar Begum in the Abhishek Varman-directed film. Madhuri stepped in for Kalank after Sridevi’s sudden demise in Dubai in February 2018. While speaking about Kalank with a leading daily, Madhuri said that it was an “emotional decision” to star in the film after Sridevi’s death.

Sridevi and Madhuri – both- were popular 90s heroines and featured in iconic films. Several reports suggested that Madhuri and Sridevi competed against each other but that certainly wasn’t the case in reality. Madhuri is extremely fond of Sridevi and so was she. Both were good friends and also spoke about their respective children whenever they met.

"In our entire career, we have always been pitted against each other. So, we always felt the other's presence in our life,” Madhuri told the daily.

Moreover, Madhuri also said that Sridevi was missed on the sets of Kalank by the entire cast and crew of the film. “I have immense respect for her. She was missed on the sets,” Madhuri added.

Kalank co-stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Abhishek Varman and co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Kalank will release on April 17.
