No as she gears up to  share screen-space with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Ritesh Batra's Photgraph, Sanya opened up on her struggles and revealed how she bagged Dangal after getting rejected from a dance reality show.

During an interview with social media blog Humans of Bombay, the actress expressed her love for dancing, thereby stating that she was a born-dancer who used to dance at every wedding she attended, while the actor with-in her maintained a low-key. Further disclosing how life took its own turn after she got rejected from Dance India Dance, she said, "I got rejected because my backstory wasn’t strong. That’s when I thought maybe I wasn’t meant to perform at all. That show may have rejected me, but it’s what got me to Bombay. I owed it to myself to at least try. So I told my dad about acting. To my surprise, he was supportive!"
