Ranveer Singh begins training for ’83, says ‘Hope to become Kapil Dev’s shadow’

Ranveer Singh has begun training for his upcoming film ’83 with Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a member of the 1983 winning team, and said that he trains with him for four hours everyday in Mumbai. While speaking to a leading daily about his prep sessions, Ranveer said that he needs to work on his bowling skills but is good with batting as he had a knack for it as a child.

“Ballu sir, as we call him, is an amazing coach. I train with him for four hours everyday in Mumbai. I focus on my bowling and do a lot of physio. I’m doing better in batting because from my childhood, I’ve had a natural ability for it. I’m a good fielder too. But I need to work particularly hard on my bowling,” Ranveer told the daily.

In ’83, Ranveer has been cast as cricket legend Kapil Dev and he told the daily that the plot of the film is spectacular, rather it is “one of the most glorious chapters in our nation’s sporting history.” To prepare for his role, Ranveer will also spend three weeks with Kapil Dev and he is excited about it as he plans to “follow” the cricket legend and imbibe his traits.

“I’m hoping to become his shadow. I will follow him wherever he goes and try to pick as much as possible from him. I hope to get some tips on bowling and batting from the man himself. I have never done this before. This will be a first for me, a unique process of spending time with the person I play on screen,” Ranveer added.
