Photograph Trailer: Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s and Sanya Malhotra’s film is a love letter to Mumbai

After decades Bollywood has finally accepted love stories that do not follow the generic clichéd beaten track. After the homosexual relationship portrayed in Sonam Kapoor starrer Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, now we have Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra bringing out an unusual love story in the film Photograph whose trailer dropped today.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the lives of a struggling street photographer played by Nawazuddin who convinces a forlorn looking Sanya Malhotra to pose as his fiancée for his ailing grandmother. He clicks a photograph of her which intrigues her and they form an unusual bond which might have a happy ending. The trailer does not give out much and keeps the suspense alive as to how the film will finally unfold.

The trailer gives us an insight into the poor life of Nawazuddin and the melancholic life of Sanya who seems to be burdened by her family’s expectations and pressures. She is intrigued by the photograph that Nawazuddin clicks of her because the girl in the picture looks happy with her station in life unlike her and that seems to be the invisible bond between the two unlikely characters.

The film directed by Ritesh Batra premiered at the prestigious Sundance film festival 2019 and received rave reviews. It also had its European premiere at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. The film is all set to release on March 15.
