Couldn’t do Shankar’s Indian 2 because I am stuck with Taanaji, says Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn has responded to rumours of being approached for filmmaker Shankar's Indian 2 and said that he couldn’t do the film because he was busy with prior work commitments related to his upcoming film Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, a leading daily reports. Several sections of the press had reported in 2018 that Ajay was approached to play the antagonist in Indian 2, which stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role.

"I would have loved to do Shankar's movie, but I didn't have the dates. He wanted to shoot the movie right now. (But) I am stuck with Taanaji,” Ajay told the daily.

While speaking to the daily, Ajay also refuted rumours that claimed the actor had refused to star in Indian 2 because he wasn’t okay with playing an antagonist in the film. "For an artiste, there are no shades of grey, black or white - the more layers you have in a role, the better it is. I loved doing movies like Khakee (2004) and Company (2002) where my negative characters were appreciated. I would love to play such roles again. (Having said that), I cannot say if it (the part in Indian 2) was grey or not because I am not doing it now; it's somebody else's role,” Ajay added.

Meanwhile, rumours of Ajay starring in director SS Rajamouli’s mega-budget film, tentatively titled RRR, are also doing the rounds but he refused to answer questions regarding it. Asked about the film, Ajay told the daily, “No comments."

Ajay Devgn, last seen in a cameo in Simmba, will appear next in Total Dhamaal, scheduled to release on February 22.
