6 hilarious scenes from Aanand L Rai's films which can be watched any time

Aanand L. Rai is one of the leading directors and producers to have given stories with small-town flavor a mainstream platform. Known for his movies like Raanjhanaa, Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Happy Bhag Jayegi and Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, Aanand L. Rai has proven he can balance both commercial and content-driven projects. With everyone eagerly anticipating the release of his Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Zero, here are a few noteworthy scenes from his movies that one can binge on in the meantime.

1) Tanu and Manu’s mental asylum fight in Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Tanu-Manu strike again with the funny banter! Who can forget this epic mental asylum couple’s fight from Tanu Weds Manu Returns? It was a truly hilarious scene laced with bitingly sarcastic humor, and Kangana- Madhavan’s sour chemistry from a marriage gone wrong was simply on point! Not to mention the terrific dialogues, “I think I love him like a mammal, like a homo sapien”, “Kaunsa sex? Pichle baar 2013 main bhai dooj ke time hua tha!” No wonder this fiery couple was an all-time favorite with the audience.

2) Tanu’s towel-clad rebel act in Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Kangana Ranaut, back in her rebel avatar for Tanu Weds Manu Returns had the audience in splits with her IDGAF attitude! This scene from Tanu Weds Manu Returns was just priceless, from Kangana boldly swaggering down clad just in a towel in front of the groom’s family-to-be, to everyone’s stupefied reactions. Not only is she audacious but strangely inspiring as well, as she tells the bride-to-be to break away from the monotony in her life instead of settling for marriage.

3) Whisky is Risky in Happy Bhag Jayegi

Guddu from Happy Bhag Jayegi is definitely right. Urdu can make anything sound eloquent! Guddu and Afridi’s drunken witty exchange over Urdu is truly funny. The tongue-in-cheek humor taking a political dig, “Ek gal pucho? Kashmir chod ke kuch bhi pucho!” also left the audiences giggling.

4) Bagga and Afridi’s spat over Urdu in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi

Afridi and his Urdu explanations are always comedy gold! Watching Bagga and Afridi arguing over ‘Nanga waar- naga waar’ is rib-tickling funny.

5) Kundan-Zoya reunion in Raanjhanaa

Reuniting with his crush after such a long time, Kundan is overjoyed at seeing Zoya. This scene will make everyone reminisce about their first love and all the embarrassing antics done in front of them. Here’s a tip, don’t be the weird person who slashes their wrist for a crush though.

6) Performance anxiety in Shubh Mangal Savdhaan

This was a revolutionary, content-driven film, addressing the problem of erectile dysfunction onscreen but without resorting to vulgarity. With funny lines like,“Choti si baat ko bada bana rahe ho”, “Wahi toh nahi kar paa rah hu!” this film nailed the performance anxiety issue! Ayushmann Khurrana is hilarious and awkward but sincere in his portrayal in this comic scene.

Zero, is slated to hit the theatres on 21st December 2018.
