We need to normalise the conversation, says Priyanka Chopra while discussing mental health awareness

It is rather necessary for parents and teachers to discuss the importance of mental health awareness with children, Priyanka Chopra said, as she addressed the subject at an event in collaboration with Facebook for #SocialForGood Live-Athon in Mumbai on November 27.

In fact, Priyanka added that soon after celebrities open up about their struggle with depression, particular sections end up shaming them but that’s not how it should be, she opined. It should be okay to discuss issues as such, Priyanka said, and we second her.

"As soon as a public person comes out about depression, there are people who shame them. We should not be the karta dharta if everything goes right or wrong. As parents and teachers, we need to tell kids, it is okay to talk about it. We need to normalise the conversation. The world needs to be open to having those conversations,” Priyanka said at the event.

Moreover, Priyanka also said that human beings have a right to be vulnerable and depression can be countered by seeking help. “We are human beings. It's all right to be vulnerable. Anxiety is not stress. Depression is more than a low,” Priyanka said.

At the event, Priyanka also spoke about the wrath of social media trolls and the dilemma that women witness after marriage - to give up on their career. Priyanka, at the moment, is busy prepping for her wedding to Nick Jonas on December 2 in Jodhpur – festivities will commence from November 29 itself.

Workwise, Priyanka wrapped the New Delhi schedule of Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink, co-starring Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim, earlier this week.
