Caralisa Monteiro shares her ‘specific incident’ with Anu Malik; Everyone knew what he was like, she says

After Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit levelled allegations of sexual misconduct against Anu Malik, singer Caralisa Monteiro has shared her “specific incident” with the musician while speaking to a leading daily. Caralisa said that almost 15 years ago, Malik had asked her to jam with him at his residence while she resisted and made it clear to him that she will only record a song if need be, at a studio and not anywhere else.

“I’ve had a specific incident with Anu Malik. I had to tell him that I only work in a studio. This happened almost 15 years ago when I was starting out. I never worked with him since,” Caralisa told the daily.

When Caralisa met Malik later, she asked her friend Clinton Cerejo to accompany her as she felt uncomfortable meeting him alone, she said, adding that “everyone” is aware of the musician’s character traits. Caralisa is best known for providing vocals to the songs Salaam Namaste, Tumse Hi Tumse and Nashe Si Chadh Gayi.

“Anu Malik wanted me to come over to his place to jam with him. He was insistent that I came home as that’s how it was done. And I told him if you need me to sing a song, I’m a professional recording artiste, so I will meet you at the studio, take the brief and then track. So when I met him later, I went with my dear friend Clinton (Cerejo, singer), because I was uncomfortable going alone. Everyone knew the kind of individual Anu Malik was/is,” she added.

Last week, Shweta Pandit claimed that Malik had told her that he would give her a song with Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan if “she gave him a kiss”. “He then smiled, what I would recall the most evil grin I’ve seen,” Shweta said of the incident when she was 15. Apart from Shweta and Sona, two other women also accused Malik of sexually harassing them.

Malik, however, has denied the allegations made by Shweta.

In the meantime, Malik, who appeared as a judge on the tenth season of the talent-based reality show Indian Idol, stepped down from the responsibility on Sunday after the accusations. In a statement issued by the musician, Malik said that he has informed the channel about taking a “break” from Indian Idol as he isn’t being able to concentrate on the show at the moment.
