Shahid Kapoor and Shree Narayan Singh to collaborate on biopic of Amul’s Dr.Verghese Kurien

Shahid Kapoor and Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu is nearing its release and the film is already eagerly awaited. Now, the latest buzz is that the director and actor are going to reunite work on a hard-hitting subject. Singh is planning to make a biopic on the 'Father of the White Revolution' in India, Dr. Verghese Kurien with Shahid in the lead role.

Apparently, the director had narrated an idea to Shahid and he was keen to take up the project. The script is based on the visionary’s autobiography I Too Had A Dream. According to a leading entertainment portal, the film rights for the book have been acquired by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures. Dr. Kurien dedicated his life to shaping the milk industry of India. He was also known as the ‘Man behind Amul’.

Talking about the film Singh told agencies, “The next film with Shahid is not based on any social issue. It is a completely different kind of a film. It is in the hard-hitting space. No one has seen Shahid in that space before. Work on the script is on.” He further added that he wants to make the film entertaining and appealing to the audience.

He said, “It’s a period film… starting from 1947. I want to do proper research before going on floors. I want to be fully prepared for this film right from the script to the location to the VFX, I want to have a proper storyboard for it. Even though the material is in hand but the big challenge lies in taking it to the big screen in a way that audience will love the journey and feel inspired as well.”

Amul had made an advertorial for Kurien on his sixth death anniversary yesterday.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Yami Gautam, and Divyendu Sharma. The film is releasing on September 21. Singh had previously helmed the Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which also dealt with a social issue and was well-appreciated by one and all, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
