It was indeed a proud moment for Abhishek Bachchan since his wife, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was honoured with the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence at the first Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Awards in Washington on September 6. After the event, Abhishek posted a heartfelt congratulatory note for Aishwarya, saying that he is elated with her accomplishment.

Aishwarya’s and Abhishek’s daughter Aaradhya accompanied her mother to the ceremony while the 42-year-old actor also posted an adorable picture of them from the event. “And the Mrs. is awarded the Meryl Streep award for excellence at WIFT. The little one gives her a congratulatory hug, and I look on (to the photo) a very proud husband!,” Abhishek wrote in his tweet.

For the ceremony, Aishwarya was glamorous in an Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla ensemble while Aaradhya looked adorable in a white frock and a pretty hair accessory. Aishwarya also posted a vote of thanks on Instagram:

Aishwarya received the award for showcasing a ‘distinction in her craft and for expanding the role of women within the entertainment industry’, as explained in a statement issued on behalf of WIFT India. Apart from Aishwarya, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar also received the Wyler Award for Excellence in Direction while Janhvi Kapoor was honoured with the WIFT Emerald Award.

Abhishek and Aishwarya married in 2007 – Aaradhya, their first child together, was born four years later.

Workwise, Aishwarya and Abhishek are all set to appear together onscreen after a hiatus of eight years in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulab Jamun. Aishwarya was last seen in Fanney Khan while Abhishek is gearing up for the release of Manmarziyaan, scheduled for release on September 14.
