Sonu Sood on his exit from Manikarnika: Can’t be working with two directors on one set

Sonu Sood recently walked out of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi owing to his professional commitment towards Rohit Shetty's Simmba. But Kangana Ranaut, the leading lady of the film, claimed that Sonu left the movie as he "refused to work under a woman director". Now, the actor in an interview with a leading daily, has clarified he never had a problem working under a female director.

“That was not my statement. I never said that I don’t want to work with a female director because I have already done a movie with a female director (Farah Khan, Happy New Year). I only said I can’t be working with two directors on one set. So I will always maintain that stand and in a span of all these years, whatever films I have done, 80-90 movies, I have worked with one director at a time. So that is my stand and I will always stick to it,” Sonu told the daily.

In fact, Sonu had earlier lashed out at the actress for playing the woman card. "Kangana is a dear friend and she will always remain one but this constant playing the woman card, the victim card and making this entire issue about male chauvinism is ridiculous."

For the unversed, Kangana had stepped in to helm the patchwork of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi after director Krish got busy with the NTR biopic. After a picture of a clapboard featuring Kangana's name as the director went viral, it was also reported that Sonu had walked out of the film, Moreover, Kangana confirmed Sonu's exit and revealed that Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub has been roped to play Sadashivrao Bhau, the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army, a part that Sonu had already shot.

Well, with the film already embroiled in the controversy, we hope Kangana is able to realise her dream project into reality with no more hurdles ahead.

Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi is slated to release on Republic Day 2019.
