Not all films can find theatre; Perhaps theatre will be more like Broadway: Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has been one of the biggest names in Bollywood for years. In spite of all the young actors and debutants making their own mark in the industry, the 53-year-old actor still manages to have the biggest fan base in the country, spanning across generations. Cinema still remains the main source of entertainment in India, though with the growing popularity of digital platforms, the dynamics of content consumption has been changing aggressively.

Talking a leading financial daily, Shah Rukh shared his thought on the new age ways. He said, “The world will change. There are many films that do not find a place in the theatre — not because they are not good enough. Film-watching should be as and when and how one wishes to.”

Sharing his agreement with the consumers and choices of content consumption, he stated, “I can’t exclaim, ‘Arre phone pe meri picture dekh rahe ho!’ If you like it that way, fair enough. If you like it bigger, put it on your television. If you like it even bigger, go to the theatre. Netflix and all other platforms are here to stay. It gives an opportunity to a lot of youngsters who didn’t know where to take their small films.”

He even spoke about his deal with the digital giant. “So my deal with Netflix CEO and the chief content officer is not just on paper. I’ll try and make stuff for you, for which I can’t find a theatre. Theatres will also change. It will perhaps be more like Broadway where movies will play for six months. It will be a 360-degree experience; there will be 3D and holographic stuff and more interaction. It will be community viewing, like watching a game, like going to a theme park” he concluded.
