With him I’m still a child who has a lot to learn: Kangana Ranaut talks about Anurag Basu

Bollywood’s Queen, Kangana Ranaut was just 17 when she decided to take charge of her life and came to Mumbai from Manali to become an actress. After a fair share of struggle, she landed her debut film Gangster which was directed by Anurag Basu. Now, eight years after their last collaboration, Kites, Kangana will reunite with her godfather for Imali.

Recently, the actress spoke to a leading tabloid, at length. While talking about the reunion with Anurag, she said, “What I love about Anu (Anurag Basu) from all those years ago was that as a debutante, when I would face the camera, he would tell me repeatedly, “Kangana, acting Kyun kar rahi ho!” I would wonder then why he was saying this when it was my job to act, but now I understand. He taught me what ‘acting’ truly is and I owe my interesting career graph to him.”

“We met again after a long gap during which I have grown as an actress, but with him, I’m still a child who has a lot to learn,” Kangana confessed that she did not want to see the script before saying yes to Anurag. She said, “It’s the right time to go back to him and I know Imali will be special.” The film was scheduled to go on floors in November this year. However, it has been pushed to next year because of her next release Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which needs a few more days of patch-work.

Other than Imali, she also has Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga – a sports film where she will be seen as a National Level Kabbadi player. Talking about Panga, she said, “Ashwiny and Nitesh Tiwari have also woven in family and children, relationships, values and a job in the Railways into the story which makes it an exciting film for me because this is a world I’ve never known or lived while at the same time it’s the story of every woman with a dream.” The film will supposedly go on floors in September if all goes well.
