I knew I had to break the image of being Mr and Mrs Sunil Dutt's son: Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju is on a rampage at the box office. The film directed by Rajkumar Hirani stars Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles. Ranbir who plays the role of Sanjay in the film has walked away with immense applause and acclaim for his portrayal of the industry's quintessential bad boy. However, many believe that this is a film that could easily have been avoided being made as it tries to whitewash Sanjay’s image in the public eye.

Sanjay came clean about the film on an interview given to a leading news website. He spoke about his relationship with his father veteran actor and politician Sunil Dutt. Sunil’s role is played by Paresh Rawal in the film and many believed that the actor managed to portray the former’s principles, and integrity, honestly in the film.

When Sanjay was asked how tough it was being Sunil Dutt’s son, the actor said that it was extremely difficult. “It is not only for me. It is for any actor's son. Difficult for me to a certain point. I knew I had to break that image - of being Mr and Mrs Dutt's son. For being Sanjay Dutt and them as my parents. That made my father proud. I'm proud that they were proud. I am a wonderful human being anyway. The pressure was the old-school pressure. What he became was on his own. He did not say 'Beta achha kia hai' very often. That was the pressure for me," revealed Sanju baba.

Sunil was a man of principles and was an honest politician so it was very difficult for him to see his son being branded a terrorist and arrested on charges of possessing illegal and unlicensed arms. Unfortunately, Dutt saab passed away suddenly on May 25, 2005, unable to see his son being declared free of terrorist charges in 2016, a regret with Sanjay carries till date.
