Mulk Trailer: Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor question patriotism in this hard-hitting courtroom drama

After delivering a power packed performance in Pink, Taapsee Pannu is all geared up for her next courtroom drama, Anubhav Sinha's Mulk. But in a role reversal, she will rather defend the accused than being defended herself.

The 2 minute 40 second-long trailer of Mulk has been unveiled today and it is gripping, to say the least. In the film, Taapsee plays lawyer Aarti Mohammed in the film while Rishi essays the role of her client, Murad Ali Mohammed. Meanwhile, Ashutosh Rana plays the prosecution lawyer and his dialogue delivery is aggressive and hard-hitting.

Taapsee too took to Twitter to release the trailer and wrote, "Here it is...... Kya yeh Mulk aapka Mulk hai???"

The trailer of the social thriller starts with Prateik Babbar denouncing his family in the fight for religion. What unfolds is the real-life struggle of an innocent Muslim family against the state. Based on a series of true events in which a Muslim family based in Varanasi is accused of treason, the tone of the trailer is grim and a necessity in our increasingly hate-filled times.

Rishi Kapoor's act is impressive and trying to prove his love for his country, he delivers a strong dialogue towards the end of the trailer and says, “Ye ghar mera bhi utna hi hai jitna aapka hai. Aur agar aap meri daadhi aur Osama Bin Laden ki daadhi mein fark nahi kar sakte to bhi mujhe haq hai meri sunnat nibhaane ka!” (This is as much my home as it is yours and if you cannot differentiate between my beard and that of Osama Bin Laden's, then I have full right to follow my religion.)

Shot in Varanasi and Lucknow, the movie also stars Rajat Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa and Neena Gupta. Mulk is slated to release on August 3, 2018.
