Sanju Box Office Collection: Ranbir Kapoor’s film scores Rs 200 crore not out

Well played, Puttar, Sixer, Sixer! Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju was received with a warm jaadu ki jhappi by the classes and the masses. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has become the filmmaker’s second highest grosser after PK, surpassing the lifetime business by 3 Idiots.

After a series of box office duds – Bombay Velvet, Tamasha, Roy and Jagga Jasoos – Ranbir, more than anybody else, was in a desperate need of a blockbuster hit to breathe life into his deteriorating career graph. And guess what, the Kapoor scion has finally bounced back in the box office game with his recent number-spinner entering the Rs 100 crore club in its opening weekend itself. Sanju has also become the only non-holiday opener, second to Baahubali, to enjoy such an impressive innings at the ticket counters.

It is mention worthy that Sanju is the only Bollywood film to rake in Rs 46 crores on its first Sunday, thereby amassing the highest single day collection. Cleary, Ranbir is back with the biggest bang!

Ranbir shone all the way for his magnificent portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju. Not only did Ranbir match up to Dutt’s physical demeanour but he effortlessly slipped into the very psyche of the actor, during every phase of his life thereby becoming an extension of the star.

Sanju traces the highs and many lows of Dutt’s life. From his drug phase to jail term to many girlfriends and relationship with his parents, Hirani presents reality with much sensitivity. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles.
