Ranbir Kapoor in the lead has expectedly won applause galore for his stunning performance as Sanjay Dutt in Sanju. However, Vicky Kaushal, who plays Sanju’s friend Kamli in the film, has come in for immense praise for his act. Some even claim he has stolen the show.
The inspiration for Kamli primarily came from a person named Paresh Ghelani, who is Dutt’s close friend and is based in the US.
Vicky had shared, “I have met him [Paresh Ghelani]. He was in Mumbai for a while when we were shooting for the film. So, we hung out a bit. I’ve spoken to him many times but met him once, as I didn’t have to imbibe his personality traits because the personality is fictionalized. However, the incidents that happened between Paresh and Sanju are depicted in the film.”

Compliments have been pouring in for Vicky’s performance, which has been appreciated by film fraternity members like Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Arshad Warsi, Aamir Khan, Meghna Gulzar and Shabana Azmi among others. Even Ranbir has raved about his performance. Vicky recently responded, “Overwhelmed, humbled and feel truly blessed. Thank you for all the love! Feel so lucky to have got the chance to work with legends in this beautiful film. Learned a lot, grew a lot… not only as an artist but as a human being as well. So grateful.”
However, even as it’s celebration time for team Sanju, which has been going from strength to strength at the box office, Vicky has had to miss out on all the fun. He could not even attend the celebratory bash to toast the success of this Rajkumar Hirani directorial. What’s more, he apparently hasn’t even had the time and the opportunity to watch his own film!
Work beckons and Vicky has had to give all things Sanju a miss. The gifted actor reveals, “I’m in Serbia, shooting for my next film Uri since the past one month and here Bollywood films don’t get played. However, I’m overwhelmed by the reaction that the film is getting. It’s really heart-warming.” What a guy!
