Shamshera is not a story of a daaku, but a film based in the 1800s: Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is back with a bang with his Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju. His professional life as well as personal is going great guns right now, as he has some very interesting projects lined up and is also dating Alia Bhatt. He has had his share of ‘coming of age’ stories and is now looking forward to Shamshera which the actor believes is quite a departure for him. The film is directed by Karan Malhotra and has Dutt as the antagonist. Ranbir will essay the role of a dacoit in the film.

In a media interaction, Ranbir told a leading news agency, “Shamshera is not a story of a 'daaku', but a film based in the 1800s, it is about a dacoit tribe who are fighting for their right and independence from the British. There was a great story of heroism, a story rooted in our country which actually happened back then. It is a departure from the kind of films I have done, it is not the coming-of-age lover boy roles which I have done often. Shamshera is in the aspirational space, the space of true, bada** commercial cinema."

The 45-second teaser that YRF released last month showed Ranbir in the guise of a dacoit holding an axe and a bunch of arrows. The teaser look had the interesting caption that read, 'Karam se dacait, dharam se azaad'. Although the actor is seen in a grave avatar he did reveal that the film also has a love story. The actor said, “A true blue Hindi film has everything- comedy, action, romance drama. And all these films I am doing are all in that direction, we are trying to have all these factors in it," RK revealed in a conversation with a leading news agency.

Shamshera is set to go on floors by the end of this year and shooting will wrap by mid-2019.

Ranbir has a very interesting and enviable lineup of films. Besides Sanju which releases on June 29, 2018, he will star opposite big actors like Sanjay Dutt in Shamshera, with Ajay Devgn in Luv Ranjan’s next and with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan in Brahmastra.
