Diljit Dosanjh woos Taapsee with this lilting song in Soorma

Diljit Dosanjh is a sight for sore eyes and jaded ears! The singer-actor shows off both his skills in the upcoming sports film Soorma, directed by Shaad Ali, in which he croons a romantic track, ‘Ishq di bajiyaan…’.

The love ballad, which has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, has lyrics penned by veteran lyricist Gulzar. This is obviously a very special matter for Diljit, for whom it was a dream come true. He shared, “I am really thankful to Shaad Ali for this opportunity to sing in this film. I recently did a show with Shankar ji and I heard many songs that he had composed in the past. Meeting Gulzar sa’ab through this film was a great thing for me because I never had any contacts to get through to him. To sing a song which is written by Gulzar and music of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a big thing for me.”

Earlier, at the trailer launch, Gulzar had said, “When Shaad made me hear the story of the first time my heart became heavy after listening to it. I told Shaad that I will listen to your script later but the real story which you told me was very emotional. I feel there is not just one Soorma but everyone whoever has worked on this project is a Soorma.”

The sweet and innocent lyrics of ‘Ishq di bajiyaan…’ are matched by Diljit’s expressions with Taapsee taking the lead in the relationship. The pair brings the fresh charm of first love onscreen in this song. And it is the simplicity of the song, the characters and lyrics that make for a winning combination. The picturisation shows how Diljit becomes a sportsman despite all the obstacles. Diljit plays a hockey player in this biopic on Sandeep Singh, also known as Flicker Singh.

Previously, Diljit has rendered Bollywood songs like ‘Ik kudi…’ from Udta Punjab and ‘Move your lak…’ from Noor.

The film is set to release on July 13, 2018.
