Kaala’s trailer was launched by Dhanush on Twitter with the caption, “ITS FINALLY TIME, #THEKINGARRIVES in style! Presenting to you, our Superstar Rajinikanth's, much anticipated #KAALATrailer.”
Kaala revolves around Tamil man who escapes to Mumbai as a child and grows up to become a powerful don in the Dharavi slums of the city. Nana Patekar plays the antagonist in the film as he calls Rajinikanth’s Kaala as the one-headed Raavan and states that whoever dares to oppose him will be killed.

The film also stars Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Sampath Raj, Sayaji Shinde, Anjali Pati, Pankaj Tripathi and others. Huma is seen in a scene where she asks Rajinikanth whether he likes her a lot, to which he replies in the affirmative. This scene is followed by Kaala cheekily saying, “I love you” to Eswari Rao. The trailer is an out-and-out ode to ‘Thalaivar’ and projects him in a grandiose manner. Rajinikanth’s style, charisma and his majestic screen presence is highlighted in the trailer. Kaala is tipped to be a gangster drama where his Robin Hood-esque character fights for the rights of people from Dharavi. The trailer has such dialogues like, “This body is our only weapon, and we’ll make sure the world knows that. Gather everybody!” and “Is land a right for you? For us, land is life itself.”

Kaala is produced by Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush under his home productions Wunderbar Films. It has music by Santhosh Narayanan and is slated for a June 7, 2018, release.
