For Manto, Rasika Dugal said no to makeup and prosthetics

Rasika Dugal who was in the spotlight for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival plays a pivotal role in the biographical drama, Manto. Rasika had to do a great deal of preparation to play this film's character, but no makeup or prosthetics were used.

"The stylists made sure that the clothes and hairdos from that era would be enough to give viewers an authentic replication of a real-life person, in a respectful manner", said Rasika. The team did a fantastic job bringing her look uncannily close to the real-life character that Rasika plays in the film. Speaking about the process, "Srikant and his team did a fabulous job of designing the look of the characters. On most days I shot with no makeup. The team just found ways to tweak small things to show a change in the look over the years, since the story of the film is over six years and Manto and Safia go through a lot in those years. They are the tiniest of changes but in my opinion make a strong impact and affect the look of the character. And also really helped enhance the performance. We really didn't use any makeup or prosthetics. But the smallest of details were looked into by Nandita", the actress revealed.

Manto is a biographical film of Indo-Pakistani author, Saddat Hassan Manto based in the post-independence era. The protagonist is brilliantly portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the film is directed by the talented and acclaimed director, Nandita Das. Rasika plays the role of the author's wife, Safia.

Rasika and Nawazzudin's performance was highly applauded at the world premiere in Cannes. Rasika's incredible acting skills brought the character to such life that no other elements like too much of makeup or prosthetics were needed.

By the reviews and critics, we say, job well done Rasika. We love how she has gone those extra lengths to do justice to Safiya's real-life character.
