NO SMOKING for Swara Bhasker after ‘Veere Di Wedding’

Veere Di Wedding is garnering a lot of attention and it is for all the right reasons. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania, this is NOT a chick flick. The film sees all four ladies in different stages in their life and is a story about friendship and sisterhood. All four ladies get together for Kalindi’s (Kareena) wedding. While Avni (Sonam) is still searching for her perfect partner and Meera (Shikha) is happily married, Shikha (Swara) is on the verge of ending her marriage. Swara’s character is also a chain smoker and a glimpse of it was seen in the trailer.

Swara recently told a leading daily that she is done with smoking, even for films. However, this is not the first time that the actress had to light up a cigarette. She was previously seen smoking beedi in Anarkali of Aarah. She is clearly not a fan of the smoking, as she mentioned, “It was horrible because I had to deal with the after-effects like nausea and dizziness. And Shahanka Ghosh wanted to ensure that my smoking in Veere Di Wedding looked authentic, he would often tell me that I wasn’t smoking properly. So that was a big issue as it was a part of my character prep.” After much hassle, the actress finally managed to smoke the cigarette right.

Like that wasn’t a task enough, the director surprised with a cigar for her to smoke. And clearly, Swara was unhappy. She said, “Seeing me smoke convincingly, he made me smoke a cigar for a scene. It was gross! It was really the worst thing I have tasted in my entire life.” By the end of the filming Swara felt relieved that she can finally bid goodbye to smoke. Though bidding farewell to her girl-pals wasn’t so easy after all.

She concluded by stating her intentions about smoking clearly, “Now, I never want to play a character who smokes. If someone comes to me, offering a character who smokes, I’m going to be like ‘What! NO NEED!’.” That’s a step in the right direction.
