Brahmastra’s superhero joins Aamir to fight drought: Attaboy, Ranbir Kapoor

There’s a new ‘jalmitra’ in town… It’s heartening to see that Ranbir Kapoor has signed up with Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s Paani Foundation, which helps farmers and villagers and drought hit regions of Maharashtra. Ranbir joined Aamir and Kiran to do Shramdaan at the Dahindule village in Maharashtra. He learnt the ropes from Aamir, and plunged into work with a cheerful optimism.

The Paani Foundation’s official handle posted images and details about the Shramdaan, hailing the creation of another watershed structure.

Paani Foundation is a not-for-profit company set up in 2016 by the team of the TV series ‘Satyamev Jayate’ to fight drought in rural Maharashtra. Water scarcity is largely a man-made condition, and the foundation believes that only people’s efforts can solve the crisis.
Supported by The Tata Trusts, HT Parekh Foundation, Piramal, Reliance Foundation and Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha, Paani Foundation had been launched in 2016, the very year in which Maharashtra had declared that 29,000 villages of the total 43,665 villages in the state were drought-hit.

The Paani Foundation has been working to help those affected by lack of or no water, to help solve the issue and create awareness about the same.
Aamir and his team have been spreading the word, encouraging people to become ‘Jalmitras’- volunteers in the cause of fighting drought in the state. Those interested are urged to visit the website https://www.paanifoundation.in/be-a-jalmitra/ and register for a day’s ‘shramdaan’ (voluntary labour) in a village of their choice.

On May 1, on the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Alia Bhatt had also become a ‘Jalmitra’ and did her share of shramdaan along with Aamir. It appears that her voluntary service has also inspired her Brahmastra co-star and friend Ranbir Kapoor to follow suit. We are all for positive change!
