The Supreme Court has rejected a request from filmmaker Sunil Singh for an investigation into legendary actress Sridevi's death. Sridevi, aged 54, had passed away due to accidental drowning in her luxury suite in a Dubai hotel. She had stayed back in the UAE after the wedding of her husband Boney Kapoor’s nephew, Mohit Marwah. The Dubai forensic report had stated that after losing consciousness, she died in her bathtub.
The petition for an independent investigation into the circumstances of her death was rejected today by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra told the petitioner, a filmmaker, “We can't interfere with the probe.” CJI Misra added, “We had already dismissed two petitions on the same issue. We can't interfere.”

The filmmaker Sunil Singh had approached the Supreme Court after his petition was rejected by the Delhi High Court. A lawyer on his behalf had argued in court that Sridevi had a Rs.240 crore insurance policy in her name in Oman. The money could be released only if she died in UAE.
An Uttar Pradesh native, Sunil Singh, had moved a petition in which he has said that he was in Dubai on a family vacation from February 20 to February 26 when he came to know of Sridevi's death. However, the Delhi High Court refused to entertain a PIL for a probe into the recent death of veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi, saying the authorities in India and Dubai had already looked into the incident.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar had dismissed the petition which had claimed that the actor's death was a matter of national interest. Singh had alleged that on enquiries made by him from the hotel staff, officials of the hospital where the 54-year-old actor was taken and others associated with the matter, he had received information which was contrary to what was reported in the media. Due to this, he had filed the petition for a probe into her death.
With the request now being turned down by the Supreme Court, it looks like the matter will rest.
