Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt will come together on screen for the first time in 'Shamshera'

Director Karan Malhotra has pulled a bee out of his bonnet as he has managed to bring two actors together for the first time on the silver screen. Ranbir Kapoor who is essaying the role of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic titled Sanju will be sharing screen space with Dutt for the first time in Yash Raj Films’ period action-adventure Shamshera. This is the first time that Sanjay will be working for the banner.

Sanjay will play the antagonist in the film and will be a complete foil to Ranbir’s character. Talking about the powerful villain of the film, Karan said, “Shamshera is a ferocious and fearless character in the film. Therefore his nemesis, the villain had to be even more fierce and monumental in every aspect. Who better than Sanjay sir to give us that impact on screen?”

It is surprising to know that Dutt in his long career in Bollywood has never worked with YRF before even though his father the veteran actor Sunil Dutt had a long association with Yash Chopra. Sunil Dutt had appeared in WaqtFaasle and Parampara for the production house. Ranbir who is reaping accolades for his portrayal of Dutt in the biopic Sanju will also be seen for the first time working with the actor and it would surely be a treat to watch the two on screen together.

Talking about the film Sanjay said, “My father and Yash (Chopra) uncle were close friends and now that I’m doing my first YRF film, it is an extremely emotional moment for me. When I heard Karan’s idea to pit Ranbir against me, I thought it was brilliant. I look forward to shooting this incredibly exciting film, my second with the hugely-talented Karan Malhotra.”

Shamshera is an action-adventure and the catchphrase of “Karam se dacait, dharma se azaad” has already caught the fancy of the cine-goers. The catchphrase will remind you of Robin Hood who looted the rich gentry to help the downtrodden. Interestingly, Ranbir will essay the role of a dacoit, a role that Sanjay’s father Sunil essayed in many of his films. Shamshera is set to go on floors by the end of this year and the shoot should wrap up by mid-2019.
